Chinese Voice Over Training

The best way to get Chinese voice over training

Why voice over training is essential?

Many people believe the most important thing to a voice over artist is having great voices. That’s correct, but not what it’s all about. Lots of people have nice voices, but what differs a VO talent from the ordinary nice-voiced people?

The answer is the correct way to use the voice.

Merely speaking or reading is not enough - real VO artists never only speak or read. They perform, and they are actually actors or actresses with their voices.

To achieve those skills, you have to take professional voice over training on a regular basis.

And how about Chinese voice over training?

Every Chinese voice over professional knows having a good voice alone is not enough to become a good vice over artist, and there are other things that can determine your voice over quality.

Voice over training requires time, energy and concentration, so does the actual voice over work. Every work, movie, show or any other voice over project needs different VO results, and what you are good at producing may not be what the director wants. So voice over is always a learning process through your whole career.

MateinChina prepares a couple of voice over trainings. Some of them can be done at home, while others need help from a professional coach:

1. Listen to TV/radio commercials:

One of the best ways to learn is to look at what the professionals do, and how they do it. TV/radio commercials may be boring to ordinary listeners, but they are definitely gold mine to you as a VO talent.

Try to take a note of a few commercials, and listen to them while looking at the scripts. How do they do it? Where do they raise their voices? Where do they slow down? Write them down, and after doing a few, I’m sure you will learn a lot.

2. Practice, practice, and practice:

Do practice yourself. Collect screenplays and voice over scripts. Perform them yourself. While practicing, you should make it just like you are working on a real project. Don’t just perform, but also take recordings.

After doing a few practices, listen to your recordings and find if there is anything you are not satisfied with. If you have hired a professional coach, send your coach these recordings to let him correct you if any.

3. Hire a professional coach:

Hiring a coach is an investment, and what determines if it’s worth it is the ROI. You should do the analysis yourself, what can your coach bring you? Does that cover the fees he/she charges?

Not many people are willing to hire a coach, but don’t let that be your limit. As I said, the most important thing is the ROI.
